Hi Linda, Robert, and Ann,
I am glad we are in touch. Thank you for all the family information. I have
entered some of it in my Family Tree Maker genealogy program and will enter
the rest after I write to you. I didn't want to delay any longer.
You will also find a PDF attached that has the family history information I
have so far on the Hubbard family beginning with your father. It goes back
generations, but does not show our relationship or your father's siblings.
I will fill in those blanks.

Linda, you remembered the name Chaunce. That was my grandfather: Chauncey
Learen vander Bie. His wife was my grandmother Hazel Elizabeth Hubbard,
sister to your grandfather. So my grandparents were aunt and uncle to your
father, which makes us cousins I suppose. My grandfather's nickname among
the grandchildren was Bub. He was Principal of Los Angeles Adult School
from 1937 to 1957 when he retired. I noticed all the musical talent in your
family. On a smaller scale, my grandfather played clarinet and was in Los
Angeles High School faculty orchestra. My mother played piano, one brother
played the piano and another the violin. They had family recitals. My
grandmother was the vocalist.

As you probably know, our grandparents generation of Hubbards included:

My grandparents had four children: Chauncey Learen vanderBie Jr. (Van),
Virginia Carol vander Bie (my mother), Leonard Hubbard vander Bie, and
Marguerite (Margo) vanderBie. They moved to Los Angeles from Wisconsin in
1924.

I think Mother mentioned driving to Hayward to visit Nana's brother and his
family when she was small.

Van died in 1942. He was an Air Force pilot and died in an accident in
Wendhoven, Utah. He never married. I am Virginia's only child and the
oldest grandchild. I have one son Bret from a previous marriage and he
lives in Kentucky. My current husband is Barry Morgan. We have been married
since 1984. He is retired from Lockheed where he was a Senior Contract
Adminsitrator in charge of large construction projects. My last career was
as a Technical Publications Manager at a seminconductor test equipment
firm. I was laid off two years ago and am still deciding what to do next.
Essentially retired for the now. Mother died in 2005. Leonard and Margo
have also died since then.

Leonard married Jean Morgan and had two daughters: Gail and Claudia. Gail
is married and lives in North Carolina. She retired recently from the
Forest Service and worked last in Washington, D.C. Claudia and Jean live in
Mariposa. Claudia is now working as a bookkeeper and both are active in
their church. Margo had three children: Jay, Michael, and Ann. Jay lives in
southern California, is married, and has one daughter. Ann is married, has
two children, and lives in Maui. Michael lives in Arizona.
